Back in 2003, a friend of mine bought a small pocket digital camera. It was the hype of the time. He wouldn’t stop taking pictures of everything he saw. I used to look at him and wonder what was it with him and this camera that he wouldn’t put it down. I watched him taking pictures of cats on the streets, his coffee mug and even pictures of me while I was occupied doing my homework.
One day I asked him what is it that was so addictive about what he was doing, and before he answered, I took the camera just to see what is this all about.
Since that day, I’ve been carrying a camera with me everywhere I go. And since that day, I’ve seen the world differently. And as the days go by, the world keeps changing in my eyes, through my lens.
Now, I seize every moment I get to try to show the world the way I see it, a world that might not exist, but a world that we sure wish did.
My photos usually do not reflect the world as it is, but more of an enhanced version of it. I am a dreamer by nature and that is reflected strongly in my work.
I have a fondness for open spaces, so I was naturally drawn into landscape photography and architecture. I’ve also come to discover that I get more excited and creative when I am traveling, leading me to take most of my photographs when I am traveling.
Since moving to Riyadh, I’ve been exploring other sides of photography, like portraiture and macro, which is worlds apart from what I used to do before, using lights, reflectors and shadows to create expressive, emotional images.
Around that time my son was diagnosed with Leukemia and began chemotheraphy, and I have decided to use photography as means to raise awareness about the disease that I’ve come to realize is not so rare. Thanks to the power of social media, I’m now using Instagram as a platform to share my daily encounters of life.
Photography is my space to vent. When I am looking at an image I’ve shot, when I am post processing, I am free and I am inviting everyone across the Virgin Mobile network to join me in my journey of exploration.
I would like to thank everyone who watched my YouTube video and voted for me. I look forward to interacting with you as the Creative Collective Photographer.
